Amy has been in and out of the hospital since our last update. Still having to make numerous trips to the doctor, and her wound is not healing properly. Please continue to pray for her!

Amy is still in the hospital, but is doing well.

6/29/06

Amy is still doing great, her mom said.  Plans are for her to come home on possibly on Monday.

06-28-06

I talked with Amy's Mom this a.m. and she Amy's was feeling better and her spirits were much better.  Amy seemed to be doing better.

I did call Amy tonight and she did seem to be doing a lot better and we talked for over an hour.  Amy said, her kidney was still functioning good and all "seemed" to be going good.  She is extremely sore.  But, of course, when you are cut like Amy has been, she has a reason to be sore.  Also, with Amy being off her feet for 8-12 weeks earlier because of her toe then she her legs are already weak and this makes getting up and down difficult not to meant being cut from the surgery and also not eating anything.  Amy had her first surgery on Wed., June 21st and have not eaten anything solid since then.  It has been pretty much juices and that is getting old.  Amy did talk them into getting her some broth.  Also, Amy had to have a little "liquid gold", as she calls it.  Amy did ask the doctor about getting her about a can of Diet Mt. Dew, if she promised to only drink about ¼ of it and he agreed as long as would not the whole can.  So, Amy got some "liquid gold".  Amy said on her third surgery when they discovered that her pancreas had stopped working that they removed it and in the process they had to remove part of her bowel because when they had placed the transplant pancreas in they had to stitch it to her bowels and therefore when they removed it they had to take a section of the bowels out.  Amy has been through so much, but her spirits remain high and she is very thankful that thus far her kidney is working.  She will have to continue to use her insulin pump, but if all continues to go well with her new kidney she will not have to go to dialysis.  Amy would like to thank each and every one of you for ALL of your thoughts and prayers.

I would like to say a special thanks for those that have been patient with me, as I have tried to work at my job, take care of my family responsibilities, answer emails, adopt puppies, take care of the medical needs of the dogs and puppies, etc.   Thanks for understanding and also for your concerns for Amy and her family.  Please continue to remember each of them in your thoughts and prayers.  It has been very hard on her Mom trying to do all that she has to do (she has been a real trooper in keeping things going as she has, even when she was sick).  I don't see how she does it.

We are all so thankful that someone was willing to give a part of them self, so that Amy can hopefully have a better life.  No one will ever know how much Amy, her family and the H.A.R.T. Foundation family (me, especially) appreciate it.

Hopefully, Amy will be home soon and anyone that would like to send a card or get well wishes can mail it to:

Amy did say thanks to all those have sent cards to her during her time in the hospital with her toe surgery.  You will never no what it meant to her.  She received cards and well wishes from people in other states and you were such a blessing to her.  Thanks so very much.

Keep checking back for more news.  Hopefully, I can report "ALL" good news.

06/26/06

I received a call today from Amy's Mom.  Not good news!  Amy had to go in for a third surgery today.  Her blood sugar (had been running 100-102) shot up to 391.  Not good.  The doctors knew something was wrong and went in to check her pancreas and you guess it.  The pancreas is lost (no longer functioning).  Amy's kidney transplant is still doing well and functioning like it should be.  We are still praying that all continues to go well there.  Amy is back in ICU.  Amy will be placed on a pancreas waiting list in hopes that there will be a perfect match for her soon.  Amy has been so sick and needs your prayers.

Please be patient with me as I try to place puppies and take care of paperwork as needed, not to mention work and try and take care of things with my own family.  If you have a question or need information, please email me at: email@hartfoundation.org and I will try and get back with you as soon as possible.  Sorry for any delays.  If you are trying to schedule a time to meet a puppy, etc. then please email me at the above email.  Amy's parents do not need to have to worry about anything besides making sure that Amy is taken care of.  Thanks so very much for your thoughts and prayers and place continue.  Amy does have a long road ahead of her and I know that she appreciates each of them.  If you would like to mail Amy a card, please mail it to the following address (as I am not sure what room she is in at the hospital from day to day):

I will continue to try and keep this page updated with the help of my daughter, Sharon.  Special thanks for all she does in keeping the website up-to-date for me as I need things added to it.

Amy is not feeling well. Hurting in her back from the acid reflux that she has and her throat is raw and hard for Amy to eat.

Amy had a rough day.  She called her Mom to come to the hospital at 7pm and her Mom stayed with her and tried to make her comfortable.  Amy's Mom needs our prayers as well.  This is really hard on her.  She is a trooper and carries on even when she does not feel that she can put one foot in front of the other.

06/24/06

Amy called today and said she had been moved to a room, out of ICU.

06/23/06

Amy is recovering and seems to be doing well.  Still a long way to go, but closer than what she was.  Amy is alert, vital signs good, kidneys and pancreas working well and Amy is talking.

06/22/06

I received a call from Amy's mom this a.m. and the doctors had told them that they would do x-rays this morning to make sure there was no leakage in the pancreas or kidney.  They did find a leak in the pancreas and took her straight into surgery.  Also, in the process of giving Amy 2 units of blood and some platelets to help her blood to clot it caused her to get some blood clots.  These were taken care of when they repair the leakage in the pancreas during the second surgery.

6/21/06

Amy did have her transplant surgery.  She is no doubt sore and uncomfortable from the surgery.  Amy has a number of tubes coming from her body which is normal for the main surgery that she had.  Both the pancreas and the kidney are working fine.  All seems to be going fine and she is in ICU.  It was a long day for the doctors and Amy's family and friends.  I know I waited and wondered how things were going and hoped that no word was a good sign.  As soon as Amy's Mom was able to she contacted me and said that all was a success.  The doctors gave Amy some meds. to put her back out for the night so she would rest well.

6/21/06

Test came back as a perfect match, so Amy will be getting the Kidney/ Pancreas.

Spoke with Amy this morning and she said they would be doing surgery on her about 9am, and she should be out of surgery around 2-3pm. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. As soon as we hear another update, we will update this.

6/20/06

Amy is home from the hospital now.As stated in our last update, she did have her toe removed. It is healing up well, and Amy is doing good.

She received a call this morning for a chance at having another possible Kidney/Pancreas Transplant. She will not know for certain till later today. Please keep her in your prayers! We will try and update as soon as we hear something regarding this.
