H.A.R.T. Foundation

(Hobbs Animal Rescue Team)

H.A.R.T. Foundation is dedicated to helping pets find new, loving homes. It was started in June of 2002 by Amy Hobbs, who, disagreeing with the practices of another rescue, decided to start her own. Since H.A.R.T. was started, many pets, both dogs and cats, have found new, loving homes thanks to the efforts of volunteers, and the kindness of people just like you!

H.A.R.T. Foundation is a permanent 501-C3 / State Certified!!!

Update on Amy: 06/12/09

Amy did go in for surgery on 05/26/09. She received both the pancreas and the kidney. It was from a young man that had been killed and the organs were in good condition and the young man had not had any health problems. Amy went in for the transplant at about 3pm on 05/26/09 (surgery was over 8 hours) and she came out of recovery around 5:30pm and was put in ICU. She remained in ICU for a couple days and was then moved to a regular room. Amy's lungs did collapse during surgery due to the doctors putting a tube in both sides of her neck. So they had to put a chest tube in Amy and this was very painful for Amy. Amy called us the day after her surgery and was doing much better than her first transplant. They did have Amy up and around in no time and Amy was doing well. Amy did run some fever around June 3rd or 4th and then on June 5th she did not have any fever and they sent her home. Amy has been at home recovering and a nurse has been coming to her home to change out the bandages and check on her incision. Amy still has ALL the staples in her. They don't want to remove them as soon as they did her previous transplant because the incision opened up. Amy still has a tube in which she has to take fluid to make sure that her pancreas and kidney continue to work correctly. The fluids make her legs swell and this is hard on Amy.

Amy did go back today (June 12, 2009) to be checked and she was again running a fever and the doctors kept her in the hospital to run test on her on Saturday, June 13, 2009).

We would like to thank each of you that have contacted us about Amy and have been praying and thinking about her. Please continue to remember her. Amy is far from being out of the woods with this transplant. She is doing much better this time but continues to cherish your thoughts and prayers for her recover. Please continue to check back with us for Amy progress.
